About ChessRatings
ChessRatings tracks the top chess players in the world with FIDE ratings across classical, rapid, and blitz formats. Compare players, view rankings, and learn about the greatest players in chess history.
The site covers 12 leading open-section grandmasters and 5 leading women. Ratings are Elo figures from the official lists published by FIDE, the International Chess Federation, which updates them monthly. They are maintained by hand here rather than fetched live, so check ratings.fide.com for the very latest list. A higher number means stronger results against rated opposition; a gap of about 200 points means the stronger player is expected to score roughly 75%.
